In the context of constant fear and instability in the global market, we have lost ourselves to the culture of materialist emptiness. This culture is especially prevalent in the City of London, the hub of banking and the corporate nine-to-five. Dealing with instability every hour, people of the City search for reassurance, a safety net to console them.

This project proposes to fill that gap by creating a feeling of a personal connection with the universe. To achieve this, the building’s programme features libraries for the City’s workers to explore the universe through the study of astronomy or astrology, which have always historically been intertwined, especially in architectural environments. The project examines the relationship of the coexistence of oppositions and questions the boundaries between the two.

Rudolf Steiner believed that architecture can provide the opportunity for one to experience the spiritual through the form it takes. This project’s ambition is to seek the expression of this notion in the modern era through the tools of ornament.
